Sport is one of the biggest recreational activities in the country. The majority of sports are played on grassed or artificial surfaces which require high levels of maintenance so a team can compete on the surface. If you participate in sports you will realise that these facilities are purpose built but do you realise how much work goes into their upkeep?
If you have a keen interest in sports surfaces and their upkeep then Askham Bryan College can offer you a range of qualifications depending on your previous experience and knowledge.
The Facilities
Here at the college we have numerous facilities for you to play on and maintain. Football and Rugby Pitches, 5- a- side pitches, cricket pitch, A par 3 golf course, and a hockey pitch.The college is also developing a new golf facility which aims to involve the students in the construction process.
We have a Learning Resource Centre, with a full range of books and periodicals, laboratories for soil testing and analysis, a wide range of turf machinery.Recently, links with Leeds Rugby Ltd will give a unique opportunity for the development of practical skills on an international standard playing surface.
Courses Available
If you are aged 16 and upwards Askham Bryan College offers a range of sports turf based courses to suit either the employed or a school leaver. Depending on your entry qualifications you can choose from one of the following:
Apprenticeships in NVQ Level 2 Sports Turf Maintenance and NVQ Level 3 Sports Turf Management
NVQ Level 2 Sports Turf Maintenance
NVQ Level 3 Sports Turf Management
Foundation Degree Sports Surface Management
Short Courses and CPD
