The Fantasy Farming League for Yorkshire beef and dairy farmers is being hosted by Askham Bryan College and is supported by Asda and Anglo Beef Processors (ABP) with financial assistance from LandSkills (Lantra).
The Fantasy Farming Beef League has similar rules to fantasy football, but instead of managing players, ten teams of farmers are managing a pen of dairy bull calves. The teams of three, each comprising two beef farmers and one dairy farmer, have been given eight calves to manage from twelve weeks old to finishing. The calves will be kept at the National Beef Training Unit based on the York campus of Askham Bryan College. Update meetings will be held monthly during which guest speakers will cover topics such as nutrition, health and the supply chain. After attending the meetings, teams can use the information to alter different aspects of the cattleās management, especially the composition of the feed rations. The winning team will be the one who produces the best product and makes the most profit.
