How to apply to study for a degree at Askham Bryan College

Equal Opportunities, Admissions and Rights to Access Policies

Askham Bryan College has an Equal Opportunities Policy, an Admissions Policy and a Rights to Access Policy which aim to eliminate prejudice and promote applications from all sections of the community.

We welcome students with disabilities or special learning needs and are able to make reasonable adjustments to take individual learning needs into account. We ask that you let us know as early as possible in the application process if you think you have a disability or special learning need that we need to consider. Examples of needs we should be aware of could include specific conditions such as dyslexia, a hearing or sight disability or some form of physical mobility limitation. Perhaps you had extra support at school or at a previous college, or you may just need support for exams or assignments? We will discuss your individual circumstances with you in detail so that together we can identify the best courses of study for you.

Students with disabilities including dyslexia should contact their Local Education Authority (LEA) for advice on Disabled Student Allowances.

Making an Application

You are advised to make your application as soon as possible, although the College and UCAS accept that some applicants may find this difficult and applications will be accepted throughout the year.

Students who have previously attended Askham Bryan College and students who are applying to study on a part-time basis can apply directly to Askham Bryan College. Please contact Central Admissions for an application form (Tel: 01904 772211 or email: enquiries@askham-bryan.ac.uk)

Students who have not previously attended Askham Bryan College and wish to study on a full time course should apply through UCAS.

The Askham Bryan College UCAS code is A70

All applications for entry to full-time degree courses offered at universities and colleges in the UK are made online using Apply. This can be accessed from the Apply link on the UCAS website and provides a secure, web based, online application system requiring no installation. Apply has full instructions and online help text. There is also a guide called Applying Online, available as a pdf, which has the background information for all sections of Apply. Apply can be used anywhere where there is access to the internet. There is an application fee of £15 (subject to variation by UCAS) However, if you only apply for one course at one institution the fee is approximately £5.

If you are applying through a school or college, you will need to obtain a 'buzzword' from the centre you are applying through. During registration, a username is generated, and you will need to choose a password and a security question and answer. When you have entered your application information, you will need to send your application to your referee. Your referee then adds the reference, checks and approves your application and sends the completed application to UCAS on your behalf.

If you are applying as an individual, ie not through a school or college, it is possible to make an application by selecting 2007 entry Student Login link. You will be required to answer a set of eligibility questions before you can start your application. To complete your application, you will also need to supply a reference from someone who knows you well enough to write about you and state if you are suitable for higher education.

Full details of how to apply and a list of UCAS publications are available on the UCAS wesbite:
