Whatever the weather, springtime is a busy time for sheep farmers everywhere. At Askham Bryan College over 400 lambs will be born during the month of April. This year members of the public will be able to come and visit the new arrivals and perhaps also see some lambs being born, mother nature permitting. On Sunday April 13th the College’s Westfield Farm will be open between 10.30am and 4.30pm. As well as seeing the lambs there will a chance to visit the National Beef Training Centre, watch demonstrations, take part in a nature trail and watch traditional and robotic milking in the dairy unit. There will also be information on the College’s courses.
Farm manager Duncan Branch says: "This is a great opportunity for people to come along and see what springtime is really like on a farm and to learn more about the animals and how we take care of our sheep and lambs in particular. Visitors will be able to learn about the different breeds of sheep we keep and their individual characteristics, as well as seeing some of the other activities that take place on our farm."
There will be an entry charge of £10 per car. Refreshments will be available and there is also a picnic area (weather permitting!)
