Meet Mambo the baby possum

Meet our latest four legged arrival, Mambo, a baby possum who is already making himself very much at home with both staff and students.

Senior Technician Nicky Broadhead with Mambo

Mambo is the first possum to have been born at the College and he is taking to campus life like a duck to water, as he settles into the Animal Management Centre at the York campus.

Nicky Broadhead, Senior Technician explains: "Mambo is definitely a ‘people-possum’. He’s lively and inquisitive and really enjoys inter-acting with the students.

" Mambo is just one of the diverse range of mammals, reptiles and birds which are key for students studying for a wide variety of animal management qualifications.  Meerkats, marmosets, parrots and numerous snakes and lizards are just some of the College’s menagerie.

"Being able to be ‘hands on’ with the animals is a vital part of the students’ learning experience," says Nicky. "Almost from his birth they have been able to study Mambo’s  behaviour in a variety of situations. In addition they now help to look after him, for example preparing his food, checking his weight, clipping his nails and generally monitoring his health and growth. "
