Congratulations to our Silver Gilt Medal Winners at Harrogate Spring Flower Show

‘Locus amoenus’ a garden created by Advanced National Certificate in Horticulture students at Askham Bryan College, has taken a silver gilt medal at the Harrogate Spring Flower Show which opened today.

Student Suzanne Moss says: " ‘Locus amoenus’ means ‘pleasant place’ in Latin. This garden was designed for a couple in their fifties who have recently downsized, have a holiday home in Tuscany and enjoy entertaining. They need a practical and easy-to-maintain space with a true feel of an Italian garden."

Holly Farrell, who developed the planting plan, added that the aim was also to create a garden that was well-equipped to cope with modern environmental concerns. "The colour scheme is predominantly purple and white," she says, " and the plants require minimal watering. It’s a simple but sophisticated design, making the garden a truly pleasant place to spend time."
