Thanks to the hard work of horticulture students Matthew Milburn, Chris O'Hearne and many those studying for the First Diploma in Horticulture, the Askham Bryan College cricket pitch has been transformed following the long winter and is ready to face a new season of use in style. Tutor Dan Prest says: ‘The students have done some excellent work and we are now planning a staff versus students cricket match to celebrate.
‘There are some great career prospects in sports surface management. Sport is one of the biggest recreational activities in the country and many sports rely on grassed and artificial surfaces which all require high levels of specialised maintenance, leading to an increasing demand for qualified staff. Courses available at Askham Bryan College range from beginner’s level right up to degrees. You can choose from full-time, part-time or work-based learning, so you can study while you’re at work, looking for work or even volunteering.’
