Could you grow to care?

The part-time Professional Development Diploma in Social and Therapeutic Horticulture starts in January 2009 and is designed especially for people who would like to work or perhaps already work in therapeutic horticulture, in the health or social care sectors, the prison or probation services or maybe at a charitable project?

College based study takes place on a Thursday each week and the course runs from January 2009 until Easter 2010.

Course tutor Dianne Anderson says: "There is an increasing awareness of the benefits that therapeutic horticulture can bring to a wide range of clients and there are increasing opportunities for those who are qualified in all aspects of this rewarding work.

"As well as horticultural principles and practice, the courses also covers understanding and applying therapies, using horticulture as a means for personal change and how to develop and manage a project in this sector. Of course, anyone who is interested in taking the course who already has some knowledge of horticulture or health and social care will find this an advantage but no formal qualifications are required and anyone who can demonstrate that they can study at this level can enrol. Previous students have gone on to work on a variety of projects both in the UK and overseas."
