Meet Milly the raccoon. She arrived at Askham Bryan College on Friday 23 January from her previous home at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park in Doncaster where she had been living with her brother who unfortunately died. She is now settling down well in our specialist mammal room at the York campus where she is being cared for by skilled Animal Management Technicians. And of course she's also receiving lots of attention from our students.
Milly will be two years old in April and we have already found out that she loves bananas and likes to wash her food before she eats it. Raccoons are not a domesticated species so it remains to be seen whether or not Milly will wish to be handled once she has grown more accustomed to us. She is certainly fascinating to observe and is a great addition to the College.
