This programme combines the theory of agricultural production alongside practical activities in a range of subjects.

If you study full-time, one day each week will be spent on work experience (we can assist in finding a work placement if required). You will study a total of six units for your First Diploma and will also study four additional units leading to an Intermediate Diploma in Farm Estate Management.

If you study part-time, you will study one day each week for two years (36 weeks each year), completing three units of study each year. You can also study for this award alongside a Level 2 NVQ in the workplace.

After successfully completing the course you can progress to a National Diploma in Agriculture or Countryside Management or a related NVQ at Levels 2 and 3. This qualification is the first step on the ladder towards a career in agriculture and the related industries. Many students obtain employment back on their home farm or as tractor drivers, machine operators, livestock herdspeople etc.

Entry requirements

As a school leaver, you will usually need at least 4 GCSEs at grade E or above (normally to include English and mathematics), or an equivalent qualifications such as an Introductory Diploma at merit level [for details, please see the Land Management section]. Mature learners who do not have these qualifications will be assessed at interview.
