Incorporating the National Award, this course combines theory and practical lessons on all aspects of animal management. You will need to find an appropriate work placement in both years of the course. The timetable is full for four days each week, with one day being allocated to completion of work placement hours. After successfully completing the course you can progress to a Foundation or Honours Degree in Animal Management.
Career opportunities include employment as technicians, welfare officers, zoo keepers, pet store assistant and kennel and cattery managers.
You will usually need a First Diploma in Animal Care with a merit profile or at least 4 GCSEs at grade C or above (normally with English and mathematics at a minimum of grade D) or equivalent qualifications. A satisfactory reference will also be required.
