Level 3 - 17 September 2009 Price on application
Level 2 is designed for unqualified nurses who are already employed in a veterinary practice. Therefore if you would like to train as a veterinary nurse, you will need to find employment first.
As a student veterinary nurse you will undergo practically-based vocational training in a veterinary practice registered as a Training Practice (TP). This will be supported by a Level 2 day-release theoretical course at Askham Bryan College, which includes classroom work as well as practical skills training in our purpose-built Veterinary Nursing suite.
All veterinary nurse training must address the National Occupational Standards in veterinary nursing. This is achieved through completion of an NVQ Level 2 portfolio at your training place, which is verified through the TP Veterinary Nursing Approved Centre (VNAC).
You must achieve NVQ Levels 2 and 3 before being awarded your Royal College Veterinary Surgeon’s Certificate which entitles you to register on the list of qualified nurses.
Although you will already be in employment as a student veterinary nurse, it may be possible to change employers, providing your new practice is also a TP. Your next step will be into employment in a TP as a Level 3 student veterinary nurse. You can progress to the veterinary nursing NVQ Level 3 when you have successfully achieved your Level 2 examination and your Level 2 portfolio has been verified and passed.
