When you apply to join these work-based learning programmes, you will meet the Engineering Guidance Officer who is specialist in engineering. The Guidance Officer will interview you, help you to find a suitable training placement and will be assigned to you for the duration of your training. Their role is to support you while you adjust to the world of work and they will plan your training with both you and your placement to produce a programme which suits you best. This will take into account any qualifications and experience you already have. You will initially come to college a block release basis. You Guidance Officer will monitor your progress with your placement provider through regular visits to your placement. During these visits they will observe you carrying out activities. The evidence generated from the vocational assessments will go into your NVQ portfolio.
Every trainee is different and you will complete your programme at a pace that suits you best, depending on your progress ad the nature of your workplace. Typically, Advanced Apprenticeships and NVQs at Level 3 are completed in 24-48 months. Apprenticeships and NVQs at Level 2 are completed in 12-24 months.
Many student progress from their training programme to employed status in service engineering, service management, after sales support, sales and marketing and manufacturer technical training.
These will be discussed with you by a Guidance Officer. Entry at age 16-18 years is preferred but other age groups are not excluded. [Contact]
