This course is for those working in Health, Social Service, Prison Service, Probation and Charitable Horticulture projects or those who intend to enter this area of work.
The course comprises five modules of study (60 hours per module). On average you will also need to study in your own time for 1-2 hours each week.
After the course there is an opportunity to progress to study for a Foundation Degree (for more information please visit www.thrive.org.uk) or take up employment. Employment prospects include, health, social service and charitable horticulture projects and prison service and probation and other community and educational projects. Inspired to work abroad? There are no prescriptive entry requirements but applicants should be able to demonstrate an ability to study at this level. Experience of working in horticulture or in a therapeutic setting would be advantageous as would a qualification in horticulture or a care/health related subject.
If you do not have a horticultural qualification it would be advantageous to consider a part-time horticulture course.
A good plant dictionary is essential and it is recommended that you have a digital camera.
Assessment will be continuous and will involve assignments based at College and at work, end of unit assessments and practical assessment where applicable. There is a written assignment of approx. 2,000 words per module. There are no examinations.
