Department: Sports Surface & Greenkeeping

Main features

Training is delivered primarily in the workplace with some College attendance. In Year 1 you will attend Monday-Wednesday once each month for 8 months (Technical Certificate). In Year 2 you will attend Thursday and Friday once per month for 8 months (NVQ Level 3 Sports Surface Management). The course normally takes 1-2 years to complete (September to April), depending on your experience and current position within your organisation. 
If  successfully completed the programme, many students stay on at their work placement in employment as assistant greenkeepers or groundspeople. With further training, employment prospects are excellent as head greenkeepers or groundspeople. You can also progress to higher level qualifications such as the Foundation Degree in Sports Surface Management.

Entry requirements

You will need a Level 2 qualification, such as NVQ Level 2, or appropriate experience. GCSE qualifications may be used to gain accreditation for some of the key skills. You will need a minimum of three years relevant work experience and a work placement is essential. The College can assist in finding a suitable placement.
