The Farm Business Survey (FBS) is widely recognised as the most authoritative survey of the financial position and performance of the businesses of farmers and growers.
The Unit collects information from approximately 300 farms located in Yorkshire, Lancashire and Cheshire. We are part of a Consortium of five University departments and two Colleges of Agriculture who conduct the survey throughout England. It is funded by Defra (the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) who use the results to inform policy decisions and anaylse their impact. The information is published and available for use by farmers, academic researchers and anyone with an interest in rural economics. The information also contributes to the European Commission Farm Accountancy Data Network (FADN).
Results are available at www.farmbusinesssurvey.co.uk, shown by Government Office Region and farm type.
