There are a whole range of sports clubs and facilities here at college (and if you can’t see one you like the look of, there’s nothing to stop you starting your own club!)
Each club has its’ own team captain who is always more than happy to talk (in length!) about how great their sport is. Alternatively, you can get more information about the teams and the times they train from either the SU Sports Officer, the Events Calendar for each term or from Matthew in the Student Support Office.
Football - The football club train twice a week and play against other agricultural colleges, local friendly matches and in the BUSA League. All abilities are welcome.
Rugby - The college has a very strong Rugby Union team who play against local opposition, agricultural colleges and in the BUSA league. We have strong links with York RI rugby team who are always keen for our players to come along and play for them on a weekend.
Netball - The netball team train every week in the sports hall and outside when the weather’s kind enough. Although netball rules mean that they field the smallest number of players for any of the fixtures they do have a well deserved reputation as being the noisiest sports team at college!
Mixed Hockey - One of the best teams to get involved with at college, as there is the opportunity for males and females to enjoy competitive sport together against other mixed teams. The team train and play their matches on the sports field adjacent to the cricket pitch.
Archery - The local archery club – Ebor Archers – have invited all ABC students to join their Monday evening shoot. During the winter and spring this takes place in the sports hall and during the summer moves to their shooting ground at Rufforth. It is a great way to get involved in one of the most traditional sports in the country. All equipment is provided.
Badminton - There is a very keen Badminton team here at college. They play once a week in the Sports Hall, but further sessions can be arranged by speaking to Matthew in Student Support or the SU Sports Officer. There is rarely a shortage of courts, with up to 16 players able to play ‘doubles’ or 8 players in singles at any one time. Players of all abilities are welcome.
The College Gym - The college gym is available for any student to join (annual membership fee payable – download the application form here and take it, with payment, to Matthew’s office). It has a wide range of exercise machines and free weights allowing you to have a comprehensive exercise programme. Whether you want to bulk up, slim down or just get a bit fitter there’s something here for you.
Squash Court - The college has a Squash Court that is free to use for students and staff. A £5 deposit is needed for the key, rackets and balls. Book your session with Matthew in Student Support or any one in the SU office.
5-a-side - The College has a sports hall hosts 5-a-side matches. This can be booked on an casual basis through Matthew in Student Support and is also host to Inter-House competitions, with teams from Arkendale, Bishopdale, Coverdale, Mixed Hostels and Off-Site students.
Volleyball - Volleyball nets are available for casual use in the sports hall and, due to popular demand, will also be included in the 2011/2012 Inter-house games
