Level 1 Land-Based Studies
We all progress at different rates and at different times. Progression up the qualification levels can be a relatively large step between various courses requiring increased knowledge and skills.
If you need direction, hate being stuck in a classroom and lack qualifications, then pick something different. Our Outdoor Learning programmes are practically based and emphasise working outdoors. Our land-based programmes are practically oriented, vocational courses for those with enthusiasm but little experience. You will spend as much time as possible outside the classroom learning by doing. It is all about providing students with employability skills and a stepping stone towards studying a Level 2 Diploma Course or Apprenticeship. Options available: Sport & Leadership, Animal Care, Horse Care, Environmental Conservation, Horticulture (Land and Plants) and Agriculture.
Where: York (all options) and Middlesbrough (A blend of all options, except sport & leadership).
Course themes include:
• Vocational practical skills (conservation projects, fencing, milking, animal care, planting - relevant to the subject chosen)
• Study skills
• Functional skills in English and Maths
• Employability skills - work skills or work placements
• Personal effectiveness
• Active sport and team building every week
• Community projects
• Educational and enrichment trips
Availability of specific practical skills will depend on resources at the individual centre.
4 GCSEs at grade 1-2 (old GCSE E-G) or an Entry Level 3 qualification. No previous experience is necessary, but a keen interest to try out your chosen subject is essential.
