Level 2 Apprenticeship Trees and Timber
We offer courses that specialise in tree surgery practices (Arboriculture), which is the science and practice of producing and managing trees and shrubs in both urban and rural locations. To support learning we have extensive facilities including fantastic tree collection and access to woodland gardens and native woodlands. We also have excellent laboratory facilities, maintenance workshops and specialist industry equipment. This sector offers you the opportunity to gain essential skills in exciting and challenging areas such as chainsaw use and learning to climb trees to a professional standard, while also gaining underpinning knowledge on tree and plant biology as well as woodland management.
This course comprises of on-the-job training at your place of work with some College-based study scheduled throughout the year. The Intermediate Apprenticeship comprises of the Work-Based Diploma at Level 2 plus functional skills. This Apprenticeship and Level 2 Work-Based Diploma offers course themes such as tree identification and properties, felling and processing small trees, cross cutting and stacking, safe use of mobile elevated work platforms, ground work, chainsaw use from a rope and harness and chainsaw maintenance, tree climbing and aerial rescue, controlling local pollution incidents, health and safety and preparing safe working sites. Opportunities exist to take additional specialist qualifications, but charges may apply.
No formal entry qualifications are required. You need an appropriate work placement or to be in relevant employment to qualify for the course. We may be able to help you to find a suitable position.
Upon successful completion of this Apprenticeship you could go on to study a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Tree Surgey (Arboriculture). Alternatively if you are a mature learner with relevant qualifications you could progress onto the Foundation Degree in Arboriculture.
