Level 3 Animal Management (Zoo and Collections Management)

Overview

This pathway is designed to prepare students for a career within zoos or other similar establishments, working with collections of animals such as those found in farm parks and other commercial settings.

Description

This course includes lectures at both the College campuses and Flamingo Land Zoo. Learners will study modules such as  zoo animal, health welfare and breed development, exotic animal health and management, avian health and management, farm livestock, animal behaviour, aquatics and business management. 

There are lectures, talks from guest speakers, visits, practical sessions in the Animal Unit and work related experience. Students' work is assessed continually throughout the course.

In year one learners may also achieve the 90 credit diploma. 

Students studying at our Wakefield Centre will have the opportunity to use the Animal Management facilities at Askham Bryan College, York - free transport is provided from Wakefield for study days in York.

Students applying will study this course in our new Animal Management Facility and Wildlife Conservation Park. These facilities home a range of animals inlcuding reptiles, amphibians, mammals, birds, fish and invertebrates.

Entry Requirements

Usually at least 4 GCSEs at grade C or above (new GCSE grading levels 4 to 9) to include any 2 from English, Maths and Science with at least a grade D in the remaining subject. Alternatively a suitable Level 2 vocational qualification (Merit or above) with English and Maths at Level 2

Further Study

Upon successful completion of this course students may progress on to a Foundation Degree in Animal Management or a Degree in a related subject area.
