New Agri-Tech Building Open

Date: 8th November 2016

Construction works at the specialist land based college were completed last week on the new Agri-Tech Innovation Centre and Land Based Engineering Workshop.

The project forms part of Askham Bryan College’s forward development plan and was made possible through funding from the York, North Yorkshire and East Riding Enterprise Partnership.

The new Land Based Engineering Workshop will provide a much larger, more modern facility to accommodate the college’s associated courses and their increased student numbers. The building will comprise of a large open workshop area with dedicated specialist equipment and changing facilities. The Agri-Tech Innovation Centre will provide high standard teaching, seminar and office facilities to both students and staff members.

Works started on the £2.4 million scheme at the start of the year and the building has been delivered on time, on budget and to a high quality of finish. A heavily York based design team worked on the project with Aspect 4 acting as Employer’s Agent, Project Managers and Quantity Surveyors, DSP Architects as lead designer, Mason Clark Associates as Structural Engineer and MRB as Consulting Engineers. York based company William Birch & Sons were the Main Contractor on the BREEAM Very Good construction.

Simon Potter, Construction Director for William Birch said “We are delighted to have constructed the new facilities continuing our long-standing association with the College. It has been really positive to see the College engaging some great York based businesses to deliver their growth plans and we look forward to seeing the new facilities in action.”

Dr Tim Whitaker, Campus Principal, commented “These first-class facilities will enrich the learning experience for our students and offer a wealth of opportunities to learn new skills.”

The facilities will be immediately available to use, with Askham Bryan College planning to officially name and open the building early 2017.
