For students requiring a Tier 4 visa, proof of English Language ability is now a requirement of the UK Border Agency (UKBA). The latest information on English Language requirements for visa applications can be found on the UK Visas and Entry website. Please note that these can be subject to change at any time.
How to Apply
If you are applying for one of our degree qualifications, you will need to apply via UCAS. Applicants who have English as a second language are expected to demonstrate their language skills through an IELTS score of 6.0 to study our Higher Education programmes.
All other applications can be made direct to the College by completing the online application form. Details of the College's accommodation can be found here. You can find a helpful checklist to guide your application here.
You MUST provide us with a Statement of Application with your application form, for your application to be considered. The Statement of Application must tell us why you want to study at Askham Bryan College.
You need to apply for a Tier 4 (General) student visa to study in the UK if you’re 16 or over and you:
• Have been offered a place on a course
• Can speak, read, write and understand English (normally an ELTS score of 7.0)
• Have enough money to support yourself and pay for your course - this will vary depending on your circumstances
• Are from a country that’s not in the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland
• You meet the other eligibility requirements

Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies Number
One of the important parts of you application is the allocation of your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies Number. This is given to you only when you have satisfied all the conditions, both academic and otherwise, which we ask of you as part of the admissions process. (This number is also required if you need to renew your visa during your studies). This number proves that we are willing and happy to sponsor you as a Tier 4 student.
You may need a visa to study in the UK and you will need to have this before you travel. We recommend you contact your local British Embassy, High Commission or Consulate to ensure that you gain the correct entry clearances. Information is also available on the UK Visas and Entry website.
