Volunteering - Draft
If you are looking for an educational and entertaining day out, why not volunteer for Askham Bryan Horse Trials?
Askham Bryan College has been hosting British Eventing Horse Trials since 2010. Over the years the event has grown, to now incorporate classes at BE80(T), BE90, BE100 and Novice. Askham Bryan Horse Trials attracts some of the most talented event riders from Yorkshire and surrounding counties, from professionals competing several horses throughout the course of the event, to a one horse amateur just starting out. Eventing is unique in offering all riders the chance to compete on equal terms.
Running over two days, Askham Bryan Horse Trials relies upon a large team of dedicated and loyal volunteers to ensure the smooth running of the event. As the event has grown the numbers of volunteers required has increased, we are therefore looking to recruit reliable and enthusiastic volunteers to help with our future eventing fixtures. The specific roles we would like volunteers for are dressage writing and cross country fence judging.
A fantastic opportunity to see dressage from the Judge’s perspective. As a dressage writer you will be responsible for writing the scores and comments on each competitor’s dressage sheet, whilst the test is being performed. Paired up with a qualified and experienced dressage judge, it is a great chance to learn what judges are looking for and how to gain those extra marks. Dressage writing requires legible handwriting, and an interest in dressage would be advantageous.
Cross Country Fence Judging
Working in pairs as a cross country fence judge you will be assigned a cross country jump. It is the fence judge’s responsibility to record if the horse has jumped the fence clear, or if they have incurred penalties for a refusal, fall or run out. Fence judging is a great chance to watch and learn from professional and amateur riders, and really gets you involved in the cross country action. Cross country fence judging requires no previous experience as a full briefing will be given on the morning of the event, but an interest in horses is advantageous.
Askham Bryan College values and appreciates all volunteers who give up their time to make the Horse Trials a success. Therefore everybody who volunteers at Askham Bryan Horse Trials will receive hot and cold refreshments throughout the day.
