LEVEL ONE LAND-BASED These courses are for anyone starting an education in a land-based subject who may benefit from a supportive environment.
This is a practical, vocational programme available in five different subjects:

• Animal Care
The Level 1 Land-Based pathway is for young people who prefer hands-on learning who are ready for some independence at college but may benefit from a supportive environment. This course is suitable for students who are looking to progress from entry level or who have not quite achieved high enough grades to do a Level 2 qualification. The programme is full of practical sessions in the vocational subject, some theory sessions, Employability and Individual Development and essential Functional Skills to enable learners to progress. Students gain a City and Guilds Diploma in Land-Based Studies at Level 1. Employability, Individual Development and Functional Skills are delivered at the level appropriate to each individual.
This programme is delivered in the specialist areas for the relevant subject choice including our extensive Animal Management Unit, Equestrian Centre, Horticultural Glass Houses, Sports Hall, Climbing Wall, Football and Rugby Pitches and the College’s working Farm. Level 1 students are also challenged to learn in different environments external to the College such as Beningbrough Hall, Flamingo Land, various external stables and the College’s Newton Rigg campus in Penrith, Cumbria.
