Other Research Work Undertaken
In addition to carrying out the core FBS (Farm Business Survey) work, the unit also undertakes a range of other research projects for clients such as;
• National Parks
• North York Moors National Park
• Natural England
• Food Standards Agency
• Anglo Beef Processors
Current projects include running a cattleman’s academy where students spend two weeks on farms learning from some of the best farmers in the UK, and one week in industry where they follow the whole of the meat chain looking at everything from cattle selection to the buying habits and display counters of butchers.
The unit are also currently running a costing programme sponsored by ABP which involves a group of suckler farmers comparing costings and performance figures of each other’s herds.
A recent collaborative research project undertaken by the Rural Business Research Unit was a study on Farm Business Innovation, Co-operation and Performance.
