Equine Science and Management student wins prestigious prize at Alltech-Hartpury Equine Student Conference

Equine Science and Management student, Sian Beeley, wins prestigious prize at the Alltech-Hartpury Equine Student Conference. Her poster onΒ ‘Physiological Metrics and Their Impact on Reproductive Success in Arabian Mares’ won the prize for best undergraduate poster out of 38 posters from universities across the UK.

Sian, who with her mother runs an Arab horse stud, completed her study by gathering primary data over a 4 year period. She looked at what led to successful pregnancies in the Arabian horses on their stud. Her results found that fresh semen and younger mares were most successful at having successful pregnancies.

The outcome of her study could mean that more research is done into why frozen semen is less successful and how to manage Arabian mares for pregnancy success in the future.

Sian said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to have won best Undergraduate Dissertation Poster at the Alltech Hartpury Student Conference! My project on how physiological metrics affect reproductive success in Arabian mares was a true passion of mine, so to have it recognised in this way means the world. Studying at University Centre Askham Bryan has been an incredible journey, and this achievement has really inspired me to keep pushing forward in equine research and science!”.
