Technical information about this website’s accessibility
Askham Bryan College is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.
Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
Live video – We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.
The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.
Non-accessible content
Some of our services include third party content which we have no control over such as a link to external information, documents, videos and forms. If you have a problem with any of the content hosted on this website, please contact us using the methods above and we will try to help.
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
Some images do not have a text alternative, so people using a screen reader cannot access the information. The monitoring widget will temporarily remediate this issue, but we plan to add the permanent fix to add text alternatives for all necessary images by July 2027. When we publish new content we’ll make sure our use of images meets accessibility standards.
Many documents are in non-HTML formats, for example PDF. They are not accessible in a number of ways including missing text alternatives and missing document structure. We are currently exploring remediation options to rectify and will provide guidance to staff in the 2026/27 academic year to make any new documents accessible before uploading the website.
What are we doing to improve accessibility
The following issues were highlighted by AXE automated monitoring tool in April 2026 and resolved by June 2026:
ISSUE 2464-A-2 — WCAG 2.4.7 Focus Visible
ISSUE 2464-A-3 — WCAG 2.2.2 Pause, Stop, Hide
ISSUE 2464-A-6 — WCAG 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value
ISSUE 2464-A-4 — WCAG 2.4.11 Focus Not Obscured (Minimum)
ISSUE 2464-A-7 — WCAG 2.5.8 Target Size (Minimum)
ISSUE 2464-A-5 — WCAG 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum)
ISSUE 2464-A-16 — WCAG 2.1.2 No Keyboard Trap
ISSUE 2464-A-1 — WCAG 2.4.2 Page Titled
The Userway accessibility tool can temporarily remediate issues whilst on the site to help improve accessibility in line with 2.2 AA standard.
Further scanning, monitoring, testing will take place from September 2026 through to 2027 academic year by adding the Userway monitoring extension to help highlight any elements that remain non-compliant outside of the remediating tool. We will work with in our web developers to deploy permanent code fixes where necessary by continuing to sample pages.
