University Centre Askham Bryan’s FdSc Canine and Feline course formally recognised by the Animal Behaviour and Training Council (ABTC) Programme Recognition Committee
2nd February 2026
University Centre Askham Bryan’s FdSc Canine and Feline Behaviour and Training course has been formally recognised by the Animal Behaviour and Training Council (ABTC) Programme Recognition Committee. This new recognition confirms that the course delivers the academic knowledge and elements required for individuals looking for ABTC recognition as an Animal Training Instructor (ATI) and/or Animal Behaviour Technician (ABT).
This means that students who successfully complete the programme will have fulfilled the knowledge and understanding criteria set by ABTC Practitioner Organisations for both Animal Training Instructors and Animal Behaviour Technicians, further supporting the progression into professional practices and businesses.
Head of Veterinary Nursing Claire Pullan expressed what this would mean for students: βThis recognition offers a significant added value to student studies. Not only will they graduate with a Foundation Degree in Canine and Feline Behaviour and Training, but students will be able to join the organisation to demonstrate they are an ABTC trained Animal Training Instructor (ATI) and/or Animal Behaviour Technician (ABT). This further enhances their career prospects and supports a transition into the animal behaviour and training sector.β
