This qualification provides you with the opportunity to develop specialist technical knowledge and practical skills required for a career in wildlife conservation and environmental management. Building on core principles of ecology and sustainability, the course focuses on the protection, management and enhancement of wildlife habitats and natural ecosystems.
Entry Requirements
4 GCSEs
at grade 4 (old GCSE grade C) or above, to include 2 from English, Maths or Science with at least a grade 3 (old GCSE grade D) in the remaining subject. Alternatively a suitable Level 2 vocational qualification (Merit or above) with English, Maths and Science at Level 2.

Key Information
Throughout the course, you will explore key areas such as woodland and habitat management, species conservation, biodiversity monitoring, and sustainable land use. You will gain hands-on experience in practical conservation techniques, including habitat creation, ecological surveying, and land management practices that support wildlife and environmental resilience.

Four GCSEs at grade 4 (old GCSE grade C) or above, to include 2 from English, Maths or Science with at least a grade 3 (old GCSE grade D) in the remaining subject.
Alternatively a suitable Level 2 vocational qualification (Merit or above) with English, Maths and Science at Level 2.
Upon successful completion of this course this qualification will give you some of the skills and knowledge that can lead to specific roles required by employers in the land and wildlife industries including working in the forestry, estate worker, groundsman or moving onto the T Level Technical Qualification in Agriculture, Land Management and Production Level 3 – Tree and woodland management and maintenance.
Progression and Development Sessions
On successful completion, you will have developed the knowledge, behaviours and technical skills required to progress into employment within the wildlife and conservation sector. Potential career pathways include roles such as conservation ranger, wildlife technician, countryside worker or estate operative. You may also choose to progress onto further study, for example higher education courses in wildlife conservation, ecology or environmental science.
All students enrolled on a Level 2 or Level 3 course will be required to attend Progression and Development sessions every week. These sessions will cover a wide range of topics from careers and employability, British Values and equality and diversity to essential life skills such as mental health and wellbeing, drugs and alcohol and personal safety.
There is a requirement to complete 150 hours of work placement (work experience) with an industry-related organisation. More details can be provided at the interview.
Our Employability Team is available to help you get started. Students often look for a placements with organisations such as conservation organisations National Parks , wildlife charities β RSPB etc
Students are expected to buy PPE, consisting of overalls and steel toe capped boots for practical sessions. A normal range of stationery is required for theory sessions.
Trip costs are kept to a minimum wherever possible, trip information will be provided at the start of the course.
