Askham Bryan College students take on Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge in memory of student

A group of students from Askham Bryan College are taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for the Mariella Rose Foundation, in memory of fellow student Mariella Rose, who sadly passed away earlier this year. 

The students will take on 24 miles on Saturday 26th September, alongside other friends and colleagues of Mariella, to raise money for the foundation which aims to aid young people with dyslexia and those seeking a diagnosis through bursaries and a mentoring programme.  

Mariella was diagnosed with dyslexia when she was 14 and went on to become a true champion and ambassador for dyslexia and displayed real courage in how she shared her diagnosis with others. 

To honour Mariella, her friends and family decided to launch the Foundation to provide support and opportunities for other young people facing similar challenges. 

Alongside her Uniformed Public Services studies at Askham Bryan College, Mariella also spent her free time volunteering with MIND and the Humberside Police Cadets and was hoping to pursue a career in the Police service. 

David, one of Mariella’s friends said: “Mariella and I really enjoyed walking together. She would definitely be doing the Yorkshire Three Peaks with me. Mariella had an amazing attitude – if we had an idea of a challenge like this, she would be the first to say, ‘Let’s do it!’” 

Jacob further added: “Mariella was always very kind to me. I know that she was very supportive to David and a very good friend to him, I feel it is important to support David – he is going through such a difficult time and is struggling with a massive loss of such a good friend.”
