Are you sporty with a taste for outdoor adventure? Then this could be the course for you. Designed to provide the knowledge and skills needed for a career in the outdoor pursuits industry or further study, you’ll be covering sports like kayaking, climbing, mountain biking and caving, all under the guidance of our expert coaches. You’ll back up this practical experience with a broad range of sporting theory during time spent in the classroom, lab and gym. Suitable for all levels of experience.

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs

at grade 4 (old GCSE grade C) or above, to include 2 from English, Maths or Science with at least a grade 3 (old GCSE grade D) in the remaining subject. Alternatively a suitable Level 2 vocational qualification (Merit or above) with English, Maths and Science at Level 2.

Key Information

During the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport you will study generic sport units and also specialise in modules relating to outdoor adventure. This course combines both theory and practical work, spending at least one day per week in the outdoors putting theory learnt into practice. Activities for adventure students may include some or all of the following, canoeing, mountain biking, kayaking, rock climbing, ropes courses, orienteering and mountain walking. You also have the chance to attend several residential trips during the two years. You will have the opportunity to gain valuable work experience and the course will also help with employment skills and/or university applications.

Progression and Development Sessions

All students enrolled on a Level 2 or Level 3 course will be required to attend Progression and Development sessions every week. These sessions will cover a wide range of topics from careers and employability, British Values and equality and diversity to essential life skills such as mental health and wellbeing, drugs and alcohol and personal safety.

 

You will be required to complete 30 hours of work placement with a relevant industry-related business.

 

You can either seek a placement and work with our Work Placement Advisers who can sign off on your provided placement or a placement can be assigned to you by our Careers and Employability Team.

So you are prepared as you can be for this course, a quick reminder about PPE (personal protective equipment) required. For the practical work, you will need sports clothing and suitable clothing for outdoor activities such as warm layers, waterproof jacket, footwear for walking and a rucksack.

 

You will be informed of course trips and costs at the start of the term.

For classroom lessons, standard stationery for notes and USB stick are required.
