Askham Bryan College celebrates one year of its onsite student food bank

Askham Bryan College are celebrating the first year of its student food bank, the Campus Pantry, an initiative set up to support those facing increasing cost-of-living pressures.

The project was launched after the college thought it needed to support their students more due to the rising cost of living.

Natalie Eaglen, a Progress Tutor from Askham Bryan College, expressed how proud she is about what has been achieved so far: “The idea came after I noticed how many students were struggling with the rising cost of living. I had already been helping some of them and realised more needed to be done. I know I wanted to make a difference and provide them with the support they need.

I’ve seen a huge difference in the lives of students and their families so far who are struggling and I can’t wait to continue to support these students.”

Students are able to visit the Campus Pantry and pick up daily essential items free of charge, this includes tinned food, pasta, cooking sauces and toiletries.

Contributions have come from college staff as well has from a number of organisiations including Tesco.

After its first year, the Campus Pantry is already making a meaningful impact, helping to ease financial pressures and support the wellbeing of students across the college community.
