Askham Bryan College hosts British Eventing Horse Trials

The event returns after a year hiatus due to the pandemic.  Askham Bryan College is hosting its 11th annual British Eventing (BE) Horse Trials this weekend, 9-10 October. Students and staff from the College’s Equine, Land and Wildlife, Arboriculture, Horticulture and Floristry departments have been putting preparations in place for the nationally-recognised fixture. They will assist in the running of the weekend’s event and have constructed of the cross-country course designed by BE Technical Adviser, Adrian Ditcham, who has worked with the College since it first hosted the fixture in 2010.  Ditcham, renowned for his course design across the UK and abroad, project-managed and built the course at the London 2012 Olympics and is a former intermediate event rider.

Adrian said, “It is good to be back at the College after not running in 2020 due to the Covid pandemic. We have a slight change to our start and finish areas and are back to using some areas which were not possible to use in 2019. As always, we hope to give educational runs at all levels for our membership as we close up the 2021 eventing season”.

Jo Richards, Event Organiser and Animal Management and Equine Curriculum Director at Askham Bryan College said, “When so many events on the circuit have had to cancel due to the year’s challenges, it is a real privilege to welcome back British Eventing and offer a wide range of competing classes including the under-18 for the 90, 100 and Novice. It feels like a bit of catch-up, and at the end of the day, we need to thank all our enthusiastic competitors and event sponsors whose support makes the event’s return a great one.”The main sponsors of the event are Quickline and Northern Saddle Company.

Competing disciplines include dressage, show-jumping and cross-country (classes from 80-T to Novice) and Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) Northern Final as part of the 90 Open and 100 Open categories. Askham Bryan College is the designated venue for the Northern Final with the Southern Final hosted at Tweseldown Racecourse, Hampshire.
