York Viking Festival
Typically held in February, The JORVIK Viking Festival celebrates the city’s rich Norse heritage. The festival features a variety of activities that bring the Viking history to life! From transforming streets into a Viking village, a parade featuring over 200 Viking reenactors marching through York’s city centre, theatrical performances, a three-course feast inspired by Viking cuisine with live entertainment and storytelling and much more! The festival offers a blend of free and ticketed events, suitable for all ages.

York Pride
York Pride is a family fun event sharing love and support for the LGBTQIA+ community. Beginning in a parade throughout York City Centre, the main event is hosted in June at York’s racecourse. Some event highlights include drag shows, famous musicians, radio presenters, and an entire fairground with food and drinks. This event works its way back into to the City Centre for some more exciting shows.

York Food and Drink Festival
The York Food and Drink Festival celebrates local and regional food and drink in York City Centre. Offering free of entry, visitors can enjoy food stalls, live entertainment, celebrity chef cooking demonstrations, and more. Often in September, the 10-day celebration is a huge attraction for tourists, featuring renowned food and is a must taste!

Aesthetica Short Film Festival
Aesthetica Short Film Festival is an international film festival that is BAFTA and BIFA qualifying often taking place in York during November. The event is an opportunity to submit and view rising filmmakers’ new contributions to the industry. The festival is one of the UK’s ‘largest and most revered film events’ and a must see for all film lovers.

York Christmas Market
York is famous for its stunning Christmas markets accompanied by the beautiful festive lights strung up throughout the City Centre. The stalls offer trinkets, drinks, food and much more and is a huge must-see tourist attraction. Top tip, visit on a weekday as weekends become very popular and can get crowded!
