Alice Priddy
Agriculture - Course Manager
What inspired you to pursue a career in your field?
I started as a veterinary nurse because I enjoyed learning about the science behind animals and how diseases worked. I got into teaching as I enjoyed training students vet nurses in practice and wanted to share my knowledge further. I got into agriculture as it linked with my own interests in livestock veterinary medicine.
What do you enjoy most about your role at the college?
I enjoying many things about teaching and course managing. Teaching wise I enjoy trying to get students to understand the importance of animal science in their everyday lives and within the agriculture industry. I also enjoy the ‘lightbulb moments’ that can happen in lessons when the students understand a topic and is able to link this to industry. Course management wise, I enjoy getting to know the students as individuals and seeing them achieve their individual goals each year.
Areas of Interest and Expertise
My main areas of interests and expertise are farm animal science and diseases, disorders and medicine.
What is your favourite farm animal and why?
My favourite farm animal is a goat, especially the Boer breed. This is because they were one of the first livestock species that I worked with as a veterinary nurse and made me more interested in livestock veterinary medicine.
What advice would you give to students looking to succeed in your subject area?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions.
If your students had to describe you in three words, what would they say?
When I have asked students their reply was ‘Our favourite tutor’.
What book, movie, artist or podcast do you always recommend?
For a movie I would recommend anything Disney related, ‘101 Dalmatians’ has always been a favourite.
For a book I would recommend ‘Never work with animals: The unfiltered truth about life as a vet’.
For a podcast I would recommend the ‘Casual Criminalist’ especially for those interested in True Crime.
Anything else?
I have achieved the Queen Guide award in 2024, which is the highest award in Girlguiding.
