What inspired you to pursue a career in your field?

My career has been inspired by a lifelong commitment to helping others grow both personally and professionally. From early on, I was drawn to coaching through Pony Club not just for the technical aspects, but for its power to develop confidence, resilience, and independent thinking. Working in equestrian sport, I witnessed how meaningful guidance could transform both performance and mindset. That experience ignited a passion for education and coaching that continues to evolve today.

What do you enjoy most about your role at the college?

What I enjoy most is seeing students discover their potential and begin to truly believe in themselves. I love supporting learners as they apply knowledge in real-world contexts and reflect on their growth. Every day brings new challenges and conversations, and Iโ€™m constantly inspired by the curiosity and commitment of our students. The collaborative environment and the opportunity to shape future professionals make my role incredibly rewarding.

Areas of Interest and Expertise

My key areas of expertise include pedagogical approaches in coaching, decision-making development, and reflective practice. I have a particular interest in high-performance in British Eventing where decision-making under pressure is vital.

What advice would you give to students looking to succeed in your subject area?

Be open to learning beyond the textbook. Some of the most valuable lessons come from learning new skills, feedback, and experience. Donโ€™t be afraid to make mistakes; they often lead to the greatest breakthroughs. Stay curious, the journey of becoming a thoughtful, adaptive practitioner. Success lies not just in what you know, but in how you apply that knowledge.

If your students had to describe you in three words, what would they say?

Supportive, motivating and caring.

What book, movie, artist or podcast do you always recommend?

I often recommend โ€œThe Coachโ€™s Guide to Teachingโ€ by Doug Lemov for anyone working in sport or education. Itโ€™s packed with practical strategies to enhance learning.

For broader inspiration, ‘The High Performance Podcast’ offers rich insights from elite performers across many fields, encouraging mindset growth, resilience, and purpose-driven work.

Anything else?

Iโ€™ve worked with national and industry bodies including British Equestrian, British Eventing and the BHS, blending practical experience with academic rigour. Outside of work, Iโ€™m a passionate rider and coach, continually learning from both horses and humans.
