Heather Blair
Veterinary Nursing - HE Course Manager and Lecturer
What inspired you to pursue a career in your field?
I have always grown up with an animal of some species in the household. This has given me the inspiration to work with animals and make them feel better!
What do you enjoy most about your role at the college?
I enjoy teaching the students about different medical conditions.
What is your favourite animal to work with and why?
I love to work with equine. I find them much more therapeutic and calming!
Areas of Interest and Expertise
Medical and Intensive Care Nursing.
What advice would you give to students looking to succeed in your subject area?
My advice is get as much work experience in practice/in the industry before pursing the career – it will give you a great understanding and insight into the veterinary industry!
What book, movie, artist or podcast do you always recommend?
I recommend the book ‘This Is Going To Hurt’ by Adam Kay (funny but real stories from the medical profession).
If your students had to describe you in three words, what would they say?
Fun, approachable, motivating.
Anything else?
I have a Postgraduate Certificate in Advanced Equine Critical Care Nursing which I am very proud of! I love anything related to equine, including that I have two of my own horses.
